A company with a long tradition
Founded in 1946, Sara Assicurazioni is one of the oldest insurance companies in Italy. With more than 700 locations and around 600 employees, the company’s mission is not only to protect customers with insurance, but also to manage their sensitive, personal, and financial data.
Nunzio Bucello, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Sara Assicurazioni, is in charge of data protection, incident management, and regulatory assistance, with a focus on new industry regulations.
The Evolution of CISOs and the adoption of OneTrust
In recent years, regulations such as DORA and NIS2 have transformed the role of Chief Information Security Officers, making them a key figure between the technology and business worlds. Sara Assicurazioni’s journey with OneTrust began in 2022, with the initial goal of finding a solution for managing cybersecurity risks.
Among the deciding factors for choosing the OneTrust platform, Sara Assicurazioni identified the following:

- Customization without the need for software development (no-code)
- Adaptability to internal business processes
An ever-evolving partnership
Sara Assicurazioni and OneTrust started working together focusing on IT Risk Management. However, that has evolved over time. In addition to managing cybersecurity risks, Sara Assicurazioni has adopted the OneTrust platform for managing their privacy processes, assessing risks related to regulatory compliance (e.g. regulations 231 and 262), and overseeing third parties in compliance with DORA.
By integrating the new capabilities in the Third-Party Management and Third-Party Due Diligence solutions, Sara Assicurazioni has worked to ensure full regulatory compliance by January 17, 2025, with a ‘‘Compliance by Design’’ approach.
