OneTrust LLC is the No. 1 fastest-growing company overall, the top Pacesetter Award winner for 2019 and the top company in the technology category.

In late 2017, alongside Gov. Nathan Deal, OneTrust announced it would create 500 new Atlanta jobs and invest $5 million in a Fulton County expansion — a goal currently underway in OneTrust’s new Sandy Springs headquarters.

“Our leadership team understands that the access to talent from Georgia Tech and other nearby universities, sustainable cost of living, working in the Eastern time zone and proximity to the world’s largest airport are all critical factors to sustain these massive growth goals,” said OneTrust CEO Kabir Barday.

OneTrust LLC is the No. 1 fastest-growing company overall, the top Pacesetter Award winner for 2019 and the top company in the technology category.

The company is growing at a “blistering pace,” said David Eaton, a partner with Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton who advises OneTrust on legal matters. “In three years, they’ve gone from unknown startup to being one of the most recognizable names in privacy,” he said. “Within the company, that impressive tempo is set by the company’s founder and CEO, [who] is truly tireless when it comes to talking to customers and the community around the globe about privacy.”

The OneTrust leadership team has a deep history with growing and building successful companies in Atlanta. The company is backed and co-chaired by the founders of two billion-dollar Atlanta brands: Manhattan Associates and AirWatch, which was acquired by VMware in 2014 for $1.54 billion.

According to Barday, more than 2,500 customers, both large and small companies from 100 countries, use OneTrust to comply with regulations including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and hundreds of the world's privacy laws. The software is available in more than 60 languages and is backed by 50 awarded patents, he said. OneTrust's 700 employees work in headquarters in Atlanta and London, as well as additional offices in Bangalore, India; Melbourne, Australia; New York; San Francisco; Munich and Hong Kong.

OneTrust’s platform's intelligence comes from DataGuidance by OneTrust, which is a source for privacy and security regulatory summaries, guidance, templates, case law and analysis. Hundreds of global privacy and security laws and frameworks are built-in, including security frameworks like ISO27001. The database is updated daily by more than 20 in-house privacy researchers, along with a network of 500 lawyers across more than 300 jurisdictions, and by input as part of OneTrust's regulatory engagement program. The company’s customers are supported by a worldwide team of more than 100 in-house privacy implementation and support resources, according to Barday.

“People realize their personal data is a valuable resource that deserves to be protected and, as a result, new privacy laws are on the rise,” he said. “But at the same time, businesses fear that over-regulation may hinder innovations in big data, IoT and other emerging technologies. Massive data breaches, regulatory fines or worse—the risk of losing customer trust—may put business innovation at risk.”

OneTrust was built to help bridge this divide, he added. “Our software helps customers maintain compliance while empowering the innovation that comes with responsible use of personal data. Our size and scale allow us to offer the easiest-to-use and most affordable solution for implementing use privacy, security and third-party risk management cases. Our modular approaches gives customers the option to start with one aspect of their privacy program, and layer on and integrate other use cases as their programs evolve and mature.”

The privacy market is complex, Barday said. “Each [day], new laws are passed, guidance is distributed and interpretations to the laws are made by various regulators,” he explained. “We needed to create a smart technology that adapted to the constantly changing nature of the privacy industry so our customers could maintain compliance without having to be experts in privacy law themselves.”

Barday advised other growing tech companies to “work together with your customers to develop your software to ensure its success. Implement rapid development cycles to constantly update your software and address changing requirements.”
